Handbag Showdown: A Whole New Marketing Approach for Coach.

Becoming a Coach Sexual, where all your coach handbag desires are fulfilled.

By Reana Nibbs

Coach doesn’t have an overly strong social media presence. It’s important for companies to connect with their market and make them feel as one. As nice as the bags are, Coach could be missing out on a whole target market simply based off of their lack of twitter and Facebook presence.
Here’s an approach I feel would benefit them greatly:
•                    Creating a nation of coach handbaggers. Create a catchy and unique name, ie. Coach sexual. Tagline it: Are you with coach? Become a proud Coach sexual today! (Coach sexual would be someone proud to say they own coach, they love coach and coach is everything).
•                    Launch this across all social media, mostly on Facebook and Twitter. Having a trending hashtag for a day would bring traffic towards coach. Put them right in the front of people’s brain. Everyone will want to be part of the trend.
•                    This would be targeted towards those who can afford coach bags between the ages of 16 to 40 who use social media moderately to often (everyday).
•                    It could be launched any time of the year, but launching before Christmas would be best as coach would become a requested gift.
•                    Ultimately the goal of this would to produce more traffic to social media and bring up sales during the holidays.
•                    How this could attract the target audience to social media is that they all want to be part of something. This would provide a way for people to connect and share their stories about coach with each other.
Thank-you for taking this journey with me through the battles of these two brands. Until next time! Adios!

Handbag Showdown: The finale. Michael Kors vs. Coach Round 4

By Reana Nibbs

This is the last showdown between these two brands. This is where we compare outside sources aside from the company websites. Here I will find 3 sites for each brand, explain what each are and based off of these selections the final score will be determined.

Michael Kors
On this site they provide a list of the top ten Michael Kors bags. For each they give a description of why it made the list, the price and details about the bag itself.
Site 1

This is a blog about purses where the reader has a whole selection on Michael Kors. The author writes articles on the different activities MK does within the community and when certain products are being released.
site 2 blog

This is a blog is a review on a Michael Kors handbag. It is easy to read, gives in depth photos and measurements of a certain bag. The blogger gives advice on how to style with the handbag and what other colors or similar styles are available.
site 3 blog MK

Coach
This blogger does a ton of different blogs on different companies. They review the handbags, clothing and overall media around a certain line.
site 1 coach

This blog has contests and giveaways for Coach handbags. They also talk about coach bags, give history into the company and provide photos. The user experience for this blog would be great as they can get more information or even win a coach bag.
site 2 coach

This blogger talks about how people can accessories to their purses/attire. They give advice and reasons why it’s important to match. They use coach bags the most as it is their favorite company.
site 3 coach

Overall, I think the winner of this round would be coach. There were a number of different sites available to give reviews, more photos and fashion advice when dressing with Coach Handbags.

Handbag Showdown: YouTube or You Lose. Michael Kors vs. Coach Round 3

By Reana Nibbs
Round 3 let’s begin! The rules are little different for this round. YouTube channels will be judged simply based off of the following:
1.       Content of videos (what type of videos are posted).
2.       What other content is linked to in YouTube videos (any collaborations with other youtubers or companies, what are the keywords used, etc).
3.       How often they post a video and how successful videos are.
Now that you have the rules, time to see who matches up.

Michael Kors
Videos range from runaway videos to ads on their products to behind the scenes of models to the glamour games (a game that Michael Kors made for their YouTube). They also have some videos on their charity watch hunger stop, which are informative and intriguing to watch. Content: 4.

Links to the website for watch hunger stop campaign, MK website and depending on the video, they have links to certain fashion blogs. They may also link where the music is from in the description. They provide more information to look further into each video when it is needed. Links: 3.5.
Michael Kors Youtube
Michael Kors photo showing the type of videos and views

Posts often at least once or twice a week. Views can range anywhere between 1,000 to 4 million depending on the popularity of the video.  They have a small number of followers compared to their other social media with 44k on YouTube. Success: 4.5. It’s not perfect but because some recent videos have gotten a million views they get a high score.

Overall: 12.

Coach
Their videos range from runway shows to advertisements on their handbags. Not much else is available, not collaborations are done, nothing to make their YouTube channel truly unique. Content: 2.

Only provide links to their website, not much else is featured in the description box. Coach just provides more detail on what is in the video in the description box. Links: 1.
Coach Youtube
Showing Coach only provides links for their website on YouTube

Coach posts about once a month. Although their videos seem to get a lot of attention with as little as 2,000 to 4 million views. They have more followers on YouTube than Michael Kors does with 51k. Success: 5 in comparison to Michael Kors.

Overall: 8.

And the winner for is Michael Kors! Sorry Coach but it looks like you lose this battle. Maybe next time for the final round!

Kate Spade vs Tory Burch- Twitter

Kate Spade vs Tory Burch- Twitter
By: Tanya Oberoi

Kate Spade:

Kate spades twitter account posts about 3-4 times a day.  The type of content they post is promotional, info graphics and discounts. The theme is usually playful artistic gifs, and pictures.  Kate spade does use the 50/50 rule on there twitter account. They definitely promote their account and take their time making the products great.
The post that caught my eye was:

                                                                Figure 1: Kate Spade

I thought this was successful because they turned an average handbag post into something that was creative. They presented an average handbag and made it seem like its “ its so close to your body” you might as well be dating it.

This twitter post has:
  • ·      250 likes
  • ·      27 retweets

The key words for the twitter post that I picked was, “i felt a rush the first time i saw you. let's have an adventure. ‪#datingmypurse ‪http://bit.ly/2dvMBNa .”

Kate Spades:
  • ·      17.1 K tweets
  • ·      909 K Followers
  • ·      898 Likes

Tory Burch:

Tory Burchs twitter account posts every 2-3 days. The type of content there twitter pages posts is promotional., images and infographics. It’s also directed for an older age group. This brand also uses the 50/50 rule, I feel as they promote there products but and also make there brand and products just as well.

The twitter post that caught my eye was:

Figure 2: Tory Burch

I thought this was a great way to promote there bags because they associated the bags with cancer. And because Tory Burch is directed for older generation this would catch someone’s eye.

The Twitter post has:
  • ·      158 like
  • ·      32 retweets

The Keywords for this twitter post was: Shop for a cure: ‪http://torybur.ch/bcrf

Tory Burch’s:
